Brewer was the surprise winner of the UK Indoor Champs in 2007, which gave him qualification for the European Indoors as a teenager. After winning a silver medal at the 2007 European Juniors, Brewer made an unexpected breakthrough over 1500m during the 2008 indoor campaign.

In 2009 he won a silver medal over 1500m at the European U23 Championships in Kaunas, Lithuania and after running a superb 3:54.80 for the mile at the London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace he was chosen for the vacant 1500m place at the World Championships in Berlin. He ran a superb heat finishing in third place in a life-time best of 3:37.17 and although exiting in the semi-final with a sixth place, he was only one-tenth slower and just missed qualifying as a fastest loser for the final.

He studied civil engineering at Bath University for a short while before having to put his education on hold in order to concentrate on his demanding training schedule. 2010 was largely a disappointment after struggling with injury for most of the season and his appearances on the track were few, however he will be looking to make up for lost time in 2011.

He has taken part in Aviva Startrack as a young athlete and has more recently volunteered as a team leader.
