My performance is missing

There are several reasons why performances may be missing from your profile and/or the rankings. The most common reasons are noted below as well as what to do in these instances.

  • Your performance has been imported onto the site but hasn't been assigned to your profile:

When performances are added to the site our system tries to automatically assign them to an athlete's profile. However, it relies on the information in the official results closely matching the information we have in our database.

  • Your performance has not been added to your profile:

Search for your name in the Results, and click on the envelope icon to the right of your name. This will take you to an identify performance page where you will be presented with options. Follow the instructions and click request update. Our team will then review and process any required amends.

Due to the large number of people in our database we rely on the Name, Age Group and Club of an athlete in order to know whose performance it is. If your Name, Age Group and/or Club in the official results does not match the details we have for you in our database then we cannot be certain that the performance is "yours".

Often it is just basic spelling mistakes which cause problems preventing performances from being assigned. Our team do their best to assign as many performances as possible but those which meet the rankings standards are prioritised.

  • We are not including performances from that particular fixture:

Although we process the vast majority of fixtures, some are omitted since we can only include verifiable performances in bona-fide competitions where the level of officiating is of a consistent standard.

For example, in agreement with all relevant organisations, such as the Home County Schools Athletics Associations, we will only be including schools meetings at county and higher levels.

Further reasons for performances being excluded are if:

  • The level of officiating is not of an acceptable standard and/or the meeting did not have a UKA permit.
  • Races were not started by a gun.
  • Times in races that were manually timed are not recorded to 0.1 seconds.
  • Performances are part of a Sportshall event .
  • We have not received/found the official results yet:

If the fixture name in the "Meeting" column on the results page is blue (i.e. a link to the official results) then we have received the results, if it is grey then we have not.

If you are the meeting organiser, please confirm this to us and if you have a copy of any results we are missing, please send them to admin@powerof10.uk

  • We have not processed the results yet:

Once we have received the official results from a fixture, we have to collate them into a format which can then be imported into our database. For Track & Field competitions, 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon road races we aim to have imported the performances within 24 hours of receiving the results.

  • Your performance appears on your profile but not on the rankings:
  • This might happen for a few reasons:

    • The ranking pages are on a cache to speed up performance. This means that, unlike profile pages, they do not update immediately. As the cache for the ranking pages refreshes every few hours it is possible that, if we have added your performance to the site very recently, the rankings will not have refreshed yet to include it. If you think this could be the case, please check again in a few hours time.
    • Your performance might be wind assisted. If the wind-gauge reading for a performance was greater than +2.0 m/s then it is not eligible for the default rankings. Nor is it able to count as a record. This is the approach use by statisticians worldwide, including the World Records from the IAAF. On the Power of 10, the performance will have "w" beside it if it is wind-assisted.

There is an option to include wind-assisted performances when viewing ranking lists using the Extended Rankings Section.

    • Your performance might not be inside the cut-off. Because we usually only add performances within certain standards, our ranking pages use these standards as an upper limit to ensure accuracy.

If your performance isn't inside this limit, it won't show on the default lists. We do give users the option to include all performances on the ranking lists, regardless of standard. For information on this please see the details on the Extended Rankings Section. N.B. though that as soon as you take the upper limit away, we can no longer guarantee the accuracy of the rankings as there will be many performances outside our standards that are missing.

    • Other factors prevent it from being included. For example, in road races, if the course is found to be short then the performance will be removed from the rankings; or if we are informed that hurdles were set at the wrong height. If something like this is the case, you will usually be able to tell by looking at the event code. If it contains "NS" or "SHORT" or similar then it is ineligible for the rankings. Please see the Event Code Explained section for more information on these. We will normally also put a note in the internal result page detailing why the performances are ineligible.

Also, please note that races done on multi-terrain courses are not eligible for the rankings due to the fact that their distance (and elevation) cannot be measured accurately enough.

  • Past performances are missing:

We only started collecting data in 2006 and initially our standards for inclusion were harder than they are now. As such, many past performances will not be on the site. We have added thousands of past performances so that our "All Time" ranking lists are correct but these are generally only the very best British performances.

  • It is an overseas performance:

We will include performances by British athletes regardless of where they are achieved. However, it is a lot harder for us to find or be notified of performances from overseas fixtures which is why such performances, even if they are within our standards, might be missing. If you have overseas performances missing please click here and follow the instructions.

  • It is a performance achieved by an U11:

We do not produce rankings lists for U11 (or younger) performances. UKA rules are only applicable to U13s and above. However if an U11 athlete achieves a performance within the standards for U13s it will be shown in the U13 rankings lists.

Correcting mistakes

Users are not able to make corrections themselves, instead they should email us at admin@powerof10.uk explaining the mistake. However, first, please read the bullet points below in case what is perceived as a mistake is not actually so.

  • My performance has been recorded wrongly

In the first instance please notify your team manager or the meeting organiser if you believe that there has been a mistake in results recording (eg A and B string athletes the wrong way round). We will need confirmation from the organisers before results can be amended/corrected.

  • The club that appears beside my name on the rankings is incorrect:

The club that appears beside an athlete's performance on the ranking list should be the club to which an athlete is affiliated (first claim) on the day of the performance. If you were a member of "Club A" until 30 June 2010 and then a member of "Club B" from 1 July 2010, any performances which were achieved prior to 1 July 2010 will appear under "Club A". Any after will be under "Club B".

Please note we only do club changes from the lists produced by England/Welsh/Scottish/Northern Ireland Athletics.

If you have completed the change of club paperwork and submitted that paperwork, your club change will be in the pipeline to us.

I competed with somebody else's number. Can I still be included?

The answer largely depends on whether the meeting organisers were aware of this, but perhaps the results had not been updated.

If this was a track meeting, the error should be notified to the organisers by the team manager (if a league) or by you if it’s an open meeting. In the case of leagues, particularly the YDL, the league administrators have to note the changes and will confirm to us when we can update.

If however, this was a road race and you gave away and/or were given somebody else's number without the consent of the organiser, this is not allowed and can result in the relevant parties being excluded from future events. As such, we cannot condone the practice by changing the results. If we became aware that somebody ran as somebody else, we would change that performance to "AN Other" or "Unknown".

Changing my coach

If athletes wish to add their lead coach, this can be done by going to their profile and clicking on the "Athlete Actions" link at the top left of their profile picture. If an athlete has not always been coached by that person, they should let us know the date from which they have been training with that coach.

We do not to remove historical coaches listed on athlete profiles unless requested by the coach; this is due to the part that they will have played in the athlete's development

Please note we only allow athletes (or their parents/carers) to update coach information.

Changing my club or University

Changes of club

Please note that we can only change an athlete's first claim club if it has been sanctioned by the Home Country Federation.

Going to University in the USA or anywhere

If you are a student at a university, or about to go to one, and that university is not on your profile page, please let us know at admin@powerof10.uk

This is especially important if you are going to an overseas university (e.g in the USA), so that we can try and actively find your results whenever you compete for that university.

UKA Inclusion criteria

The general remit of the Power of 10 website is to record all performances achieved by UK athletes, in line with agreed entry standards, in order to maintain a clear and accurate record of how performances are improving in all areas and across all age groups.

The site can only include verifiable performances in bona-fide UK Athletics/Home Country Federation (Athletics Northern Ireland, Welsh Athletics, scottishathletics) licensed competitions where the level of officiating is of a consistent standard.

Track & field performances will also be excluded that otherwise meet the criteria when:

  • The level of officiating is not of an acceptable standard.
  • Races were not started by a gun.
  • Times in races that were manually timed and not recorded to 0.1 seconds.

For road and multi terrain, we include performances from races that have been awarded a UKA licence either by England Athletics or one of the Celtic national governing bodies.

In road races, the times recorded for rankings purposes will be the "gun" times. This is to ensure consistency over all races both now and in the past to reflect that rankings represent a record of performances done under direct competition whereby the results of a race are ordered by the order that athletes cross a common finish line after a common start. This is also the common method used by statisticians worldwide.

We do recognise that in some large races some athletes may not have an clear run as soon as the gun goes and so, when available, we will also endeavour to record "chip" times and to present these alongside the "gun" times to assist the reader in comparing performances.

Further, the road rankings shown on the site are taken from performances on actual road (not multi terrain) courses, where the course has a measurement certificate and where the course, as measured, was actually run by the competitors.

Symbols and event codes explained

Symbols and event codes explained

Sometimes we use certain symbols, which appear beside a performance, to further explain a performance.

Symbols

course slightly downhill (net drop is over 1.0 metres/km but less than 5.0 metres/km). Such performances are still eligible for rankings but not for records.

at altitude.

Note that we do not record altitude-converted times.

wind-assisted

over-sized track

chip time. When no gun time is available

indoor

split time e.g. a 1500 time in a mile race.

estimated time

m

means the position mid-race at the time a split time is taken

Event codes

Each different event is given an event code. Some are obvious: "100" "10K", others less so

Denotes hurdles (e.g. 60H = 60m hurdles)

Denotes female specification (e.g. height hurdles, weight javelin 60HW = women's 60m hurdles. NB ALSO W FOR WALKS!

Age groups

e.g. 60HU20W/SPU15M

SC

Steeplechase

WC

Wheelchair

SHORT10K

short - not eligible for rankings.

MT

multi-terrain - not eligible for rankings (can't be accurately measured).

ZXC/ZMT/ZRD

for cross country/multi terrain/road races where the distance is either unknown or non-standard;

NAD

e.g. some events where the distance has not been officially measured but is thought to be "Near As Dammit" the advertised distance.

NS

Non-standard event, such as missing hurdle/steeplechase barrier or non-standard hurdles. NS after any event code means the event is ineligible for the rankings.

NWJ

No water jump in the steeplechase, so ineligible for the rankings.
