Sadly, I sustained a serious fracture to my right tibia growth plate during that Winter in a rugby match. Never the same afterwards I managed to win British Junior, Midland Counties and Staffordshire County Titles in future years calling time on athletics at 18 due to unaffordable physio bills. More of an all-rounder now I returned to athletics after two decades away from serious competition at 39. Although that precocious talent is a thing of the past, I still love sprinting as much as I ever did, despite being far superior at strength and stamina feats, where I competed and succeeded at world level in charitable work of which I am very proud. As a novice long jumper I won British Championships M40-44 Bronze in 2017 and have been gently ticking over looking at the long term bigger picture en route to hopefully achieve my new running ambition of sub 12secs for 100m at 50, so it will be time to train harder and step up to the plate soon.
