Owns the top 59 throws by a GB athlete (to 68.98m).

Sophie is a former netball player, ballet dancer and trampolinist who only started to take the hammer seriously in 2007.

Her father is a former schools gold medallist over 100m. She competed in Aviva Star:track and Aviva Sportshall as a young athlete.

Hitchon broke the under-17 record in 2007, in her first year of taking the event seriously and in 2008 she set four UK junior records. In 2009 she has broken the record five times again at the European Junior Championships taking bronze and in 2010 she took her performances to a new level with a gold medal at the World Junior Championships and setting another UK junior record with a massive 66.01m. At the 2011 BUCS Championships she broke the UK record with a huge throw of 69.43m at the age of 19 and added to that when taking the bronze medal at the European U23 Championships in Ostrava with 69.59m.
