Joanne first came to prominence when she was English Schools junior champion for Devon at cross-country in 2004.
In 2006 she was the youngest member of the British team at the World cross-country championships after third place finishes at the junior international in Portugal, the Southern under-17s and at the CAU Trials junior races. In 2008 she came second at the National junior cross-country championships. She consider Paula Radcliffe as her greatest inspiration.
She made a promising debut over 3000m in 2008. Away from athletics Joanne has achieved grade eight in ballet, grade five in tap and modern dance.
